BACKWARD DESIGN WEEK 3



                                                    WEEK 3-1 BACKWARD DESIGN 

ESTABLISHED GOALS :

RI.63. Analyse in details how a key individual, event or idea is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in a text.

RI.6.4. Determine the including figurative, connotative and technical meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative, connotative and technical meaning.

RI.6.6. Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and explain how it is conveyed in the text.

RI.6.7. Integrate information presented in different media or formats as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.
                                             
                                  
                        UNDERSTANDINGS 

Students will understand that
The main character/ event/ idea is what the story is about.

Words and   phrases take a different meaning when used within a text.

Writers use various writing styles to either capture/ suspense or both to their readers


                      ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
What are the elements of a short story?

What is Context Clue?  

What are the various figurative devices?

What is connotation?

How would the writer develop his story?

                    STUDENTS WILL KNOW  
The elements of a short story.

The techniques used by various writers

        That the meaning of words and phrases can change due to how they are used within a sentence or paragraph.

        They can use these methods in their writing.




                   STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
Identify the main character/event/issue in printed materials.

         Identify Context Clues, Figurative devices and    connotation.

         Explain the meaning of text using the  
     information they are given. 

        Use context clues, figurative devices and connotations within their writing styles.

     Read novels and easily the purpose for the writer mentioning certain facts within their stories.

     Share how they would have introduced various characters.

     Explain how they would have concluded stories read. 
                  













                                                  WEEK 3 – 2 BACKWARD DESIGN

ESTABLISHED GOAL: w.6.2.-Write informative/ explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts and information through the selection, organization and analysis of relevant texts.

                         UNDERSTANDING
Students will understand that

           Informative/ explanatory texts are based on factual information.

          Their introduction is essential for the body of their text.

            They can use linking devices to link paragraphs.



             ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

         What is informative/ explanatory text?

        What are the types of informative/explanatory texts?  
       
        How do I write an informative/ explanatory
     text?   
  
        What can I use to link my paragraphs?

                   STUDENTS WILL KNOW

         Informative /explanatory texts needs an              introduction. 
                                                     
        Information and ideas must be clear.

        How to compare/contrast, define, classify or state cause and effect.

        That appropriate words and phrases are used to clarify the relationship among ideas.








                    STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO

         Write introductory paragraphs.

         Convey ideas and information clearly

         Organize ideas using strategies such as cause      and effect, compare and contrast, classifying      etc.

         Use appropriate words and phrases to clarify      the relationship among ideas.

IntroductionMy name is Candacy Pilgrim and I'm a native of Guyana which is located on the continent of South America. I have taught from first  to the ninth grade during my sixteen years in this  noble profession. I've only resided in the United states for about two years.
